The world’s first transgender doll, based on activist Jazz Jennings, will be released at the New York toy fair this weekend. The doll is being made by New York’s Tonner Doll Company, The New York Times reported, and will be a limited edition item. The doll will be dressed in a pink top and shorts, as Jennings does on the cover of her book Being Jazz: My Life as a (Transgender) Teen.

Tonner Doll Company CEO Robert Tonner said the item will be priced at $89.99 (around Rs 6,000) while another red-carpet version of it will cost up to $100 (around Rs 6,700). Tonner told The New York Times, “I don’t even know if the word ‘transgender’ will be on the package… She’s a great kid, she’s a very brave, special person. And that’s what we’re trying to get out there.”

Jennings, who is 16 years old, has been one of the youngest advocates for her community and now has her own reality show, two books, and is co-founder of a foundation to support transgender youngsters.
