Reliance will not launch app-based taxi service, confirms company
The spokesperson denied a recent report that claimed that the firm has ordered around 600 cars.
Reliance Industries will not venture into “unrelated sectors” by launching an app-based cab service, a company spokesperson confirmed on Saturday. Referring to a recent report that claimed Reliance Jio has ordered around 600 cars to launch its app-based cab service, the spokesperson denied it and said it was “wrong”, according to PTI.
Rumours were doing the rounds for months that Reliance Jio will soon launch a taxi service. Speculations gained momentum after the Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio had announced a strategic partnership with can aggregator Uber to allow users pay for their rides through Jio’s prepaid wallet.
However, the company official clarified that Reliance Jio does not intend to go beyond enabling commuters to pay for their rides through JioMoney. Another official agreed with the spokesperson and told PTI that the company “has no plans to get into unrelated diversification”.
