A 35-year-old man drove a car into a crowd near a bakery in Germany’s Heidelberg on Saturday, killing one and injuring three others, reported Reuters. However, the authorities have said so far there were no signs of terrorist intent.

After the attack, the man who was armed with a knife, fled from the tram station, reported The Guardian. The police trapped him near a swimming pool in Heidelberg, and asked him to drop the weapon. When he refused to do so, they shot at him. He is receiving treatment for his wounds. Police spokesman Heiko Kranz told Reuters the suspect will be interrogated once he is fit for questioning.

A 73-year-old German was seriously injured in the attack and died while being treated at a clinic. Two others – an Austrian man and a woman from Bosnia-Herzegovina – were injured and treated at the scene.

The suspect was identified as a German. A bag and a suitcase were found in his car. “And now for all: German without a migration background!” the police tweeted.

The incident come two months after a Tunisian man who had been denied asylum in the country drove a truck into a Christmas market in Berlin on December 19, killing 12 people.
