Former Congress MLA found guilty of abetting journalist’s suicide
The quantum of the sentence against Ram Kishen Gujjar will be announced on March 2.
An Ambala court on Tuesday convicted former Congress MLA Ram Kishen Gujjar and two others in connection with the suicide of a journalist in 2009. Additional Sessions Judge Sanjeev Arya said Gujjar had been accused of abetting Pankaj Khanna’s suicide. The quantum of the sentence will be announced on March 2, reported PTI.
Khanna had consumed poison on June 10, 2009. In his suicide note, he had accused Gujjar and two of his aides of harassing him. Khanna had also alleged that the police had booked him after Gujjar implicated him in a false case.
The journalist’s father, Yashpal Khanna, had registered a case against Gujjar and the other two. However, the police gave Gujjar a clean chit after initial investigations. The father then moved the district court to demand that Gujjar’s name be included in the FIR. Gujjar had challenged it in the high court, which rejected his plea.
