Narendra Modi directs BJP MPs to attend all Parliament proceedings after low turnout
The prime minister told the lawmakers that it was their basic responsibility as people’s representatives to be present at the sessions.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday warned MPs of the Bharatiya Janata Party to ensure that they attend Parliament proceedings, saying he can “call them anytime”. He is believed to have been unhappy over the lack of quorum in Parliament, which has been delaying its functioning, PTI reported.
At a BJP Parliamentary meeting, the prime minister told the lawmakers that it was their basic responsibility to be present in Parliament. Modi also told them that he can do a “lot of things”, but cannot attend the sessions “on their behalf”, officials told PTI.
Modi directed the BJP lawmakers to be present in both Houses while a Parliament session was on and not sit in the Central Hall to have informal conversations with other MPs. As representatives of their constituency, they should attend Parliament every day, even if they have a lot other of other work to do, the prime minister added.
Union Minister Ananth Kumar said Modi had “laid down the road map of our future endeavours” in the meeting. On April 6, the foundation day of the BJP, village panchayat members will hold meetings across India, he said.
