Strong evidence to support claims that Donald Trump’s team colluded with Russia, says US official
At the same time, a CNN report claimed the FBI had information to prove that they coordinated to damage Hillary Clinton’s campaign.
Multiple reports on Wednesday stated that there is strong evidence to support claims that United States President Donald Trump’s associates colluded with Russian officials during his election campaign. A CNN report quoted unidentified Federal Bureau of Investigation officials as saying that Trump’s people had “communicated with suspected Russian operatives to possibly coordinate the release of information damaging to Hillary Clinton’s campaign”.
On the same day, a senior Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee said there was “more than circumstantial evidence” on the interactions, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The CNN report claimed the FBI is now reviewing the information on the possible coordination between Trump officials and Russia through travel, business and phone records along with human intelligence. On Monday, FBI director James Comey had confirmed that they were investigating the possible Russia ties.
Meanwhile, Democratic member of the House Intelligence Committee Adam Schiff, when asked during an interview on MSNBC whether the information the FBI was looking into was circumstantial, said, “I can tell you that the case is more than that, and I can’t go into the particulars.” He called the data “very much worthy of an investigation”.
While Trump and his associates have repeatedly denied claims that linked them with Russia, the speculation on the subject has only grown since he was sworn in on January 20. On February 14, Trump’s National Security Adviser Michael Flynn resigned after reports emerged that he had discussed the country’s sanctions with Russia.
