India regained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after four years on Tuesday after beating Australia by eight wickets in the Dharamsala Test on Tuesday. Chasing a target of 106 set by the Australians, Indian opener KL Rahul and captain Ajinkya Rahane took India home in the first session on Day 4.

Rahul remained unbeaten at 51 – scoring his sixth half century of the series – as Rahane smashed a quick-fire 38 off just 27 balls. It was a closely-fought series as India came from behind to win the series 2-1. Ravindra Jadeja was named Man of the Match and Man of the Series.

Resuming at 19/0, Rahul and Murali Vijay needed another 87 runs, but Pat Cummins dismissed Vijay. In the same over, Cheteshwar Pujara was sent back to the pavilion for a duck after being run out by a brilliant direct hit by Glenn Maxwell. In came Rahane, and soon, India were cruising to a stellar victory.

This was India’s fourth series win at home on the trot. They beat New Zealand, England, Bangladesh and Australia. They have won 10 of the 13 Test matches they played.
