Delhi MCD polls: Congratulate BJP on their victory, says CM Arvind Kejriwal
While AAP’s Alka Lamba offered to resign as a legislator, Congress chief Ajay Maken stepped down from his post to work as a party worker for a year.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday congratulated the Bharatiya Janata Party for its victory in the civic polls, reported ANI.”My government looks forward to working with Municipal Corporations of Delhi for the betterment of Delhi,” the Aam Aadmi Party chief said.
Earlier, Delhi Congress President Ajay Maken resigned from his post, taking responsibility for the party’s defeat in the civic body elections in the Capital. “We have made a reasonable comeback, but I had hoped to do better in the polls,” he told reporters, adding that he would not take up any post in the Congress, instead work as a party worker for a year.
Maken’s statement came as the Bharatiya Janata Party won the Municipal Council of Delhi elections with a major lead over its two rivals. Aam Aadmi Party MLA Alka Lamba, too, has offered to resign as a legislator and from all party posts. She said was taking responsibility for AAP’s defeat in in all three wards where civic body elections were held.
Besides Maken, Delhi Congress in-charge, P Chacko, also resigned, as did Congress General Secretary Gurudas Kamat.
