The Central Bureau of Investigation on Saturday arrested Karbi Anglong Deputy Superintendent of Police Anjan Bora for allegedly posting a derogatory remark about a Bharatiya Janata Party MLA on his Facebook wall, ANI reported. A case was registered against Bora on Thursday.

The police department have condemned the incident but have not ruled out the possibility of Bora’s account being hacked. “Necessary action will be taken against the official if he is found guilty,” Assam Police chief Mukesh Sahay had told The Times of India.

“Bora’s remark has damaged the party’s image. We want the state government to probe the matter seriously and act promptly,” said BJP general secretary Dilip Saikia.

In 2016, Bora was accused of posting a hate speech against Muslims on Facebook. He allegedly told his large number of followers on the social networking site that there would soon be a ban on the Muslim prayer call, Azan, and vowed to create a “Muslim-free Hindustan”, the English daily reported.
