Bihar: Van driver beaten up for honking at cattle, could lose vision in his left eye
The police said the accused had gathered villagers to assault the 30-year-old after his blaring horn had sent the animals running.
The 30-year-old driver of a pickup van suffered serious injuries to his left eye after being attacked for honking at cattle in Bihar, The Indian Express reported on Sunday. The incident took place last Thursday on NH-107, which connects Saharsa and Maheshkhoot in the state. A few reports had said the victim, Manish Mandal, had lost vision in his eye. He is currently recovering in Bhagalpur Sadar Hospital.
Station House Officer of Sonbarsa Police Mohammed Izhar Alam said Mandal was hit with a wooden stick. An FIR has been lodged against Maina village resident Ram Dular Yadav, who was behind the attack.
The police said Yadav had gathered villagers to assault Mandal after his blaring horn had sent the cattle scurrying all over. Another report said Yadav had been crossing the road with just one cow and not a herd. Yadav, however, said he was been milking the cow when it ran away scared.
A doctor at a primary health centre said Mandal had been bleeding profusely from his left eye when he was brought in and they could not rule out the possibility of his losing his sight, according to Hindustan Times.
