The Delhi Police on Tuesday arrested a woman who had accused a Bharatiya Janata Party legislator of raping her, while the politician had said that he was being blackmailed, reported PTI. She was arrested from her home in Ghaziabad.

Valsad legislator KC Patel had claimed that the woman, who is a Supreme Court lawyer, had drugged him before taking “objectionable” photos of him. Patel had also filed a police complaint in Delhi alleging that she had demanded Rs 5 crore from him.

The politician had alleged that the woman and her associates had threatened to release the photos and videos if he did not comply with their demands. “These are all false allegations,” Patel had told ANI. “I have full faith in law. I will cooperate with the investigation.”

The lawyer had filed a complaint alleging that the MP had raped her at his official residence on March 3, after inviting her over for dinner. She had claimed that Patel had raped her on several other occasions. A lower court in Delhi had asked the police to submit an action-taken report and ordered an investigation officer to track the case, after Delhi Police reportedly refused to register an FIR, IANS reported. She alleged that Patel had attempted to blackmail her as well.

However, Patel claimed that the woman had spiked his drink after inviting him over to her residence in Ghaziabad, saying that she needed his help with something. Patel added that the woman had attempted this con with other parliamentarians as well. The police had also held similar allegations against the woman.
