Venus Williams caused a car crash in which a man died, say Florida Police
However, the tennis player was not charged with any offences.
Tennis player Venus Williams caused an accident in Palm Beach Florida in her SUV on June 9, and a passenger in the other car later succumbed to his injuries, police said on Thursday. However, Williams not charged or cited, and was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash.
The victim, 78-year-old Jerome Barson, was in the passenger seat of his car when his wife Linda drove into the side of Williams’ vehicle at an intersection. Linda Barson said she had been slowing down when approaching the crossing when the light turned green, compelling her to go forward, the police report said.
Williams, on the other hand, told police she had entered the intersection on a green light but had to stop because of other traffic. Police said she had violated Linda Barson’s right of way, and that she had been driving at 5 mph. Her lawyer said the tennis player expressed “her deepest condolences to the family who lost a loved one.”
The police said the crash is still under investigation.
