Jammu and Kashmir: Pakistan violates ceasefire along LoC in Rajouri, civilian injured
The ‘unprovoked and indiscriminate firing’ broke out in Bhimber Gali, a defence spokesperson said.
An encounter broke out on Friday between the Indian Army and Pakistani troops along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, PTI reported. A woman from Balakote suffered splinter injuries when a shell exploded near her house.
“The Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked and indiscriminate firing from small arms, automatic weapons and mortars at 4.15 am on Indian Army posts along the LoC in Bhimber Gali village [in Rajouri],” Defence Ministry spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Manish Mehta said.
Bhimber Gali falls in the two districts of Poonch and Rajouri. “The Indian Army is strongly and effectively responding to Pakistan,” an unidentified defence official told IANS.
Two Army jawans were injured on Thursday after Pakistani troops opened fire in civilian areas along the LoC in Poonch. Friday’s incident is the 23rd ceasefire violation this month, according to PTI.
