Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday signed seven Memorandums of Understanding in several areas, including space research, technology, water and agriculture, reported ANI.

The two leaders, who issued a joint statement after the meeting, said both India and Israel will cooperate in fighting terror. Modi said India and Israel have always shared “common goals”, though their paths have differed in the past.

Modi said they discussed the current situation in West Asia and hoped that peace, dialogue and restraint would prevail in the region. “PM Netanyahu and I agreed to do much more together to protect our strategic interests and also cooperate to fight growing radicalization.”

He also said that besides bilateral opportunities, the two countries discussed issues that affected global peace. “Our talks focused on not just areas of bilateral opportunities but also how our cooperation can help in global peace and stability,” he said.

Modi later met 2008 Mumbai attacks survivor “Baby Moshe” in Jerusalem.

On Tuesday, Netanyahu had given Modi a grand welcome on his arrival in Jerusalem. He had announced a $40-million (around Rs 26 crore) Innovation Fund for greater India-Israel cooperation in technology, saying Israel would give importance to a “Make with India” policy.

Modi is the first Indian prime minister to have ever visited Israel.
