A Division Bench of the Bombay High Court in Goa on Monday issued notices to several authorities after Bharatiya Janata Party President Amit Shah held a public meeting at Dabolim Airport on July 1. Such events are prohibited at the airport, PTI reported.

The notices were issued to the secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, chief secretary, director general of police, the airport director and the deputy commandant of Central Industrial Security Force based on a plea by advocate Aires Rodrigues. They have been given three weeks to reply to the notices, The Hindu reported. The Congress has also asked for a case of trespass to be registered in the matter.

Rodrigues asked the court to issue directions ensuring that the law holds the organisers of the meeting accountable as conducting a meeting within the “high security” airport’s premises is in “total violation of the law”. Rodrigues said he had filed a joint complaint with the same authorities, who he said acted like “caged parrots and took no action”, The Hindu reported. The lawyer said the meeting was probably the first of its kind organised by a political party.

He accused the BJP of falsely claiming it had the required permission to hold the public event then contradicting itself by saying that the meeting was a spontaneous one. He has asked the court to direct the police to register an FIR against the organisers, Shah and those present at the event.
