At least 12 people were killed and more than 40 others injured in two suicide bomb attacks in northern Cameroon’s Waza town on Wednesday evening (local time). “There were 14 deaths, including the two suicide bombers, and 42 wounded,” an Army colonel told Reuters. “The attack was perpetrated by one suicide bomber, and the other was shot dead.”

Governor of the Far North region Midjiyawa Bakari pegged the toll at 13. Bakari said that the two suicide bombers had targeted an area with a lot of restaurants. Waza is only 8 km from the Nigerian border.

A local official told AFP that the town had been cordoned off. “Nobody can enter and nobody can leave,” he added.

Although no group has claimed responsibility for the suicide bombings yet, security personnel suspect that it is the handiwork of Boko Haram militants.
