Jerusalem: Three injured after gunmen open fire near holy site, attackers killed
The sacred site is known to Muslims as the Noble Sanctuary.
Three attackers opened fire near the Temple Mount, Jerusalem’s holiest site on Friday, wounding three Israelis, Reuters reported quoting police officials. Two of those shot are critically injured. Security forces shot the three attackers dead.
The site near which the shooting took place is also known to Muslims as the Noble Sanctuary. The attackers arrived at the site and walked toward one of the Old City gates nearby, police spokesperson Luba Simri said.
“When they saw policemen they shot at them and then escaped toward one of the mosques in the Temple Mount compound,” Simri said. “A chase ensued and the three militants were killed by police.” She said three firearms were found on their bodies.
The gunmen are yet to be identified.
