Three men allegedly kidnapped and raped a 40-year-old woman in Maharashtra’s Latur district, PTI reported on Sunday. The police have filed a case against unknown people on charges of gangrape, kidnapping and sexual harassment, sub-divisional police officer of Udgir, Aniket Bharti, told the news agency.

The incident is believed to have taken place on July 13 when the woman was returning home from a hospital in an auto rickshaw. The accused stopped the auto and forced the driver to take them to the outskirts of the village, PTI quoted a police official as saying.

According to the complainant, the men stopped the auto rickshaw somewhere between Shahu Chouk and Shelhal Road on the outskirts of the village. The driver, who was threatened, fled the spot. The accused then allegedly tied the woman’s hands and raped her.

The police is currently going through CCTV footage available from the road where the assault took place. “We have started a search operation to nab the accused and a probe is on,” PTI quoted another police official as saying.
