The former wrestler posed as an official of Chhatarsaal stadium, the girl had said.
The Delhi Police on Tuesday night arrested former national-level wrestler and coach Naresh Dahiya for allegedly raping a 16-year-old kabbadi player on July 9. Dahiya confessed to the crime during interrogation, The Indian Express quoted sources as saying.
The girl had filed a complaint at the Model Town police station on Monday stating that a man who had posed as an official of the Chhatrasal Stadium, had raped her. She had claimed the man picked her up from the stadium in his car and took her to a flat in Rohini on the pretext of introducing her to a few friends, The Indian Express quoted a police officer as saying.
She had said the man gave her drinks laced with sedatives and then raped her. Later, he threatened her with “dire consequences” if she reported the incident to others, she had said. As she was too scared, she did not approach the police for several days, the minor said.
Police have booked Dahiya under Section 376 (rape) of the IPC and several sections of the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act. Dahiya, who is in his late 40s, is from Karala village in northwest Delhi.
