Two wings of the four-storey Saidarshan Apartment collapsed around 10.45 am, municipal officials said. The nursing home on the building’s ground floor did not have many patients as the place was being renovated.
Local residents alleged that the building collapsed because of the renovation work at the nursing home owned by Shiv Sena leader Sunil Shitap. However, BMC officials are yet to ascertain the reason. Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar told ANI that he has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
