Bye-poll results: BJP wins in Goa, AAP retains seat in Delhi’s Bawana, TDP in Nandyal
Counting began on Monday morning for the bye-polls held in four Assembly constituencies of Goa, Delhi and Andhra Pradesh on August 23.
Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar won the bye-poll from his constituency of Panaji on Monday, ANI reported. The polls were held in Goa’s Panaji and Valpoi, Delhi’s Bawana, and Nandyal in Andhra Pradesh.
Parrikar won by a margin of 4,803 votes, ANI reported. “I will resign from Rajya Sabha next week,” Parrikar told reporters. In Valpoi, Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, who quit the Congress to join the Bharatiya Janata Party, won by a margin of 10,666 votes, ANI reported.

Bawana, Delhi
In Delhi’s Bawana constituency, Aam Aadmi Party candidate Ram Chander retained his party’s seat leaving the BJP and Congress far behind. Chander won with a 24,000 vote margin over his BJP rival Ved Prakash followed by Congress veteran and three-time MLA from Bawana Surender Kumar.

Nandyal, Andhra Pradesh
Telugu Desam Party candidate Brahmananda Reddy won the election in Andhra Pradesh’s Nandyal by defeating his YSR Congress Opponent Shilpa Mohan Reddy by 27,000 votes. The poll saw 39 out of 250 postal ballots being declared invalid on Monday morning. All the remaining 211 ballots showed a None Of The Above vote.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu congratulated Reddy and said, “People have again shown confidence and trust in development and good governance”.
