AIADMK drama: President should intervene in Tamil Nadu’s ‘extraordinary situation’, says Dinakaran
The ousted party general secretary said O Panneerselvam and Edappadi Palaniswami should resign following the suicide of a Neet petitioner in the state.
The ousted deputy general of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, TTV Dinakaran, on Saturday asked President Ram Nath Kovind to intervene in the ongoing political turmoil in Tamil Nadu, PTI reported. Dinakaran met with his supporters in Puducherry who have been staying at the Windflower Resort since August 22.
“The president and the governor [C Vidyasagar Rao] should intervene in this extraordinary situation,” Dinakaran said. “We will wait for two more days and then decide the next course of action.”
He claimed that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam had betrayed the AIADMK and the people of the state. “A chief minister appointed by us has betrayed people and the party by joining hands with Panneerselvam who had earlier betrayed the party,” he said, according to PTI.
Dinakaran said Panneerselvam and Palaniswami should resign following the suicide of a medical aspirant S Anitha. She was a petitioner in the Supreme Court against the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test and had committed suicide after she failed to get a seat in a medical college. “The state does not need Neet at all,” Dinakaran said.
Dinakaran and 19 party legislators had met Tamil Nadu Governor C Vidyasagar Rao on August 22, claiming the support of at least 22 MLAs. Dinakaran had also demanded that Palaniswami be removed from the post of chief minister.
Dravida Munnetra Kazhagham Working President and leader of the Opposition MK Stalin has twice demanded a floor test in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. On August 27, Dinakaran had removed Palaniswami from the party’s Salem district secretary post.
