Sensex closes just 27 points up after retail inflation rises, Nifty sheds gains
The top gainers at the BSE were Sun Pharma, Reliance Industries, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Lupin and Tata Motors.
The benchmark Bombay Stock Exchange Sensex rose just 27.75 points to close at 32,186.41 on Wednesday, as retail inflation increased to a five-month high. The National Stock Exchange Nifty, however, finished 13.75 points lower at 10,079.30 despite trading higher in the morning.
The top gainers at the BSE on Wednesday were Sun Pharma, Reliance Industries, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Lupin and Tata Motors. The biggest losers were ITC, Bharti Airtel, HDFC, Cipla and Wipro.
At the NSE, the top five gainers were Tata Power, Sun Pharma, Reliance Industries, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories and Bank of Baroda. The five stocks which lost the most were BPCL, Indian Oil Corp, ITC, Indiabulls Housing Finance, and Eicher Motors.
Other Asian markets had a mixed day. Japan’s Nikkei 225 jumped 89 points on a lack of fresh geopolitical tensions in the Korean Peninsula. The Shanghai SE Corporate Index traded almost flat at 4.66 points in green. However, the Hong Kong Hang Seng fell 78 points, and the Taiwan TSEC 50 Index 77 points.
The rupee was trading six paise down at 64.08 to the United States dollar at 4.10 pm.
