A teacher of a school in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur district was arrested on Thursday on charges of abetting a Class 5 student’s suicide, IANS reported. In his suicide note, the boy alleged that he had committed suicide because he was punished by his class teacher.

The incident is believed to have taken place on September 15. The 12-year-old was a student of the St Anthony Convent School.

According to the suicide note, the day he ended his life, the student was punished during an exam and made to stand for three hours. “She punished me as she always listened to sycophants,” he said in the note, according to the Hindustan Times. “It is my last wish that my teacher does not punish any other student.”

The boy is believed to have consumed poison after returning home from school on September 15. He was hospitalised after his parents found him lying in his room. The boy died on Wednesday after being in the hospital for six days, IANS reported.

After his parents found the suicide note, they registered an FIR against the school management and the teacher. His body has been sent for an autopsy.
