Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan hit out at his Uttar Pradesh counterpart Adityanath for commenting on the state’s law and order situation and medical facilities during his visit to the southern state.

“How to run hospitals, Kerala government should learn from Uttar Pradesh,” Adityanath had said in Kannur on October 4 when he took part in the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Jana Raksha Yatra. His comments came just two months after at least 63 children died in a hospital in his constituency, Gorakhpur.

On Wednesday night, Vijayan said on Twitter that it “amused him” that the Uttar Pradesh chief minister found time for Kerala despite problems in his own land.

He also thanked the Uttar Pradesh chief minister for letting the country know about infant mortality rate figures. “The infant mortality rate in Kerala is 10, while the national average is 34, and in Uttar Pradesh it is 43,” Vijayan said.

The Kerala chief minister also accused state BJP leaders of providing “false and fake information” and told Adityanath to not base his statements on them.

Vijayan said he hoped Adityanath’s Kerala visit had rejuvenated him to face the problems back in his own state. “But dear, I am sure this break, [beautiful and happy trip] would help you to get rejuvenated for facing various issues in UP,” he said on Twitter.
