Hyderabad Police file case against writer Kancha Ilaiah for ‘hurting religious sentiments’
Malkajgiri Police Station Inspector Janaki Reddy said they had filed the case after a student approached a local court.
The Hyderabad Police on Wednesday registered a case against Dalit writer Kancha Illaiah for allegedly hurting religious sentiments in his new book on the Arya-Vyasa community, PTI reported quoting a police officer. The case was registered based on the direction of a court, The Hindu reported.
Malkajgiri Police Station Inspector Janaki Reddy said that they had filed the case after a 22-year-old student approached a local court. The student alleged that Illaiah had targeted not just the Arya-Vyasa community but the entire Hindu community in his book Samajika Smuggluru Komatollu. The court then asked the police to register a case.
Ilaiah has reportedly claimed that the Arya Vysya community used to eat meat and were agriculturalists. The World Arya-Vyasa Mahasabha has accused the writer of receiving funds from abroad, and sought an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation. They also demanded that the police book him under the Prevention of Corruption Act for allegedly making money through illegal sources.
On September 11, Ilaiah had filed a police complaint after he said he received threat calls because of his book.
