Two unidentified men shot dead Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leader Ravinder Gosai near his house in Punjab’s Ludhiana on Tuesday. The incident took place around 7.20 am when Gosai had left home to take his dog out for a walk, reported the Hindustan Times.

The assailants fired two bullets in his neck and back and fled. The 58-year-old RSS leader died on the spot. No arrests have been made yet, but the police said they had started an investigation, reported India Today.

Gosai lived in Ludhiana’s Gaganjit Colony. His son Deepak Kumar said the assailants had arrived on a motorcycle. “I was inside the house when this happened,” he told The Indian Express. “I thought some children must be bursting firecrackers. When we came out, he was lying in pool of blood.”

The Basti Jodhewal Police have registered a First Information Report against unidentified persons.

Gosai was the head of the Raghunath Nagar Mohan Shakha of the RSS in Ludhiana. He also held a position with the Bharatiya Janata Party’s district unit.
