More than 250 policemen in Rajasthan went on leave for a day on Monday, and some of them refused to give guard of honour to Home Affairs Minister Rajnath Singh in Jodhpur, The Times of India reported.

The policemen were protesting a reported reduction in their pay scales.

Calling it a serious violation, Jodhpur Police Commissioner Ashok Rathod said the holiday was not sanctioned, and that uniform action will be taken against them. Rajasthan Deputy General of Police Ajit Singh said that indiscipline would not be condoned.

The constables have been protesting since a WhatsApp message, which said that their pay will be reduced from Rs 24,000 to Rs 19,000 per month, began to circulate, the report said.

The deputy director general of police issued a letter on Monday evening to inspector generals and district superintendents of police, asking them to speak to the protesting officers to dispel the rumour.
