Bengaluru: 13 arrested for attacking court commissioners inspecting illegal abattoirs
A mob had attacked the group of High Court-appointed officials on Tuesday evening.
Thirteen people were arrested in Bengaluru on Wednesday for rioting and attacking a group of court commissioners and police officials when they had come to check for illegal abattoirs, ANI reported. A case under the Cow Slaughter Act was also filed.
A mob had attacked the group on Tuesday evening in Yelahanka New Town. The group, which also included members of a non-profit cow protection outfit, had gone to the area as it had information about cattle being kept for slaughter. Three animals were rescued, the police said on Wednesday.
Window panes of police vehicles were smashed, PTI reported quoting Kavitha Jain, a member of the nonprofit. Jain said she was a petitioner in a case asking for illegal slaughterhouses in the city to be closed. The Karnataka High Court had appointed two court commissioners to inspect such abattoirs, she added.
