European Union president Donald Tusk on Tuesday told the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France, that Britain remaining in the bloc was still a possibility, Bloomberg reported. It is up to the United Kingdom to ensure how Brexit would play out, Tusk said.

“We must keep our unity regardless of the direction of the talks,” the EU leader said. “It is in fact up to London how this will end: With a good deal, no deal or no Brexit.”

Tusk’s remarks, said Politico, reflected a prevailing view in Europe that the anti-EU faction in British Prime Minister Theresa May’s Conservative Party is holding the whole country hostage.

The UK was all set to begin diplomatic push over the next two months – before December’s European Council meeting – in order to influence the mandate of Michel Barnier, EU’s chief negotiator on Brexit, Politico reported.
