Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday invited criticism on social media after he claimed that the roads in his state were better than those in the United States. Chouhan made the comment while addressing the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum meeting in Washington.

“When I got down at the Washington Airport and travelled on the road, I felt the roads in Madhya Pradesh are better than the United States,” ANI quoted Chouhan as saying. The United States’ road network is the world’s longest and biggest, exceeding 6.58 million kilometers.

The chief minister added that no state can develop without basic infrastructure. He claimed, “Today, we have constructed around 1.75 lakh kilometer roads in the state and all the villages have been well-connected with roads.”

Twitter users, however, poked fun at Chouhan’s comments sharing pictures of potholed roads in Madhya Pradesh. Several users also shared a picture of Chouhan from August 2016 when the chief minister was carried by security men after he had visited flood-hit areas of Madhya Pradesh.
