Rajasthan government orders inquiry after 14 die in transformer blast in Khatulai village
The police said five people died on the spot and nine succumbed to burn injuries at a hospital in Jaipur.
The Rajasthan government on Wednesday ordered an investigation into Tuesday’s transformer explosion in Khatulai village, in which 14 people were killed, PTI reported.
“It is a tragic mishap. Such a thing should not happen to anyone,” said Union minister and Jaipur Rural MP Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, who visited the families of the deceased and the injured at Jaipur’s Sawai Man Singh Hospital. “A transformer blast is a matter of concern, and all aspects of it should be investigated.”
Shahpura Deputy Superintendent of Police Bhag Chand Meena said the explosion took place while women were performing a pre-wedding ritual. “Five people died on the spot, and 22 were rushed to SMS Hospital,” he said. “Of the 22, nine more deaths, mostly women, were reported late on Tuesday. The casualties included a pregnant woman.”
Three people have been discharged from the hospital, and 10 are still undergoing treatment, the police said.
Jaipur District Collector Siddharth Mahajan announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the kin of those who died.
