Dina Wadia, the only child of Pakistan founder Mohammed Ali Jinnah, died at her home in New York on Thursday. She was 98. She had reportedly contracted pneumonia a few days ago.

She is survived by her son and Wadia group chairman Nusli N Wadia, daughter Diana N Wadia, and grandsons Ness and Jeh Wadia.

Dina Wadia, who was born on August 15, 1919, was raised alone by Jinnah after he separated from his wife Rattanbai, according to Dawn. Though he loved her deeply, their relationship was under strain after Dina fell in love and married an Indian Parsi, Neville Wadia, when she was 17.

She stayed back in India after the Partition against her father’s wishes, and has visited Pakistan only two times – after her father’s death in 1948, and once in 2004.
