Members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad created a ruckus at Hyderabad’s Narayana Junior College on Thursday, alleging that the dean of the institute sexually harassed teachers, The Times of India reported. They claimed that one such teacher committed suicide as a result of the harassment two years ago.

The dean, Jayasimha Reddy, has denied the allegations. The ABVP members began their protest after an audio clip went viral on social media, in which a man and a woman are purportedly heard talking about the sexual harassment on campus.

The protestors reportedly broke tables, smashed window panes and raised ABVP flags when the college refused to take immediate action. A police vehicle was also damaged. Six activists were detained by the police for trespassing, mischief amounting to damage and criminal intimidation.

The institute later said it would form an internal committee to investigate the allegations.

The protestors also called for all Narayana institutes to remain shut on Friday. They alleged that the case of the female teacher who committed suicide was not the only one, and there were several other such complaints against the dean.

In a statement, ABVP’s Telangana Joint Secretary P Srihari said authorities of Narayana Junior College took no action even as Reddy continued to harass female employees, The Hindu reported.
