Mumbai: Monorail services suspended after fire breaks out in a train, no injuries reported
Fire chief Rahangdale denied reports that a short circuit had caused the blaze.
Mumbai’s monorail services were suspended on Thursday morning after a train caught fire at the Mysore Colony Station in Chembur. The flames were brought under control in 40 minutes, and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire, which broke out around 5.20 am, is not known yet. Mumbai fire chief Rahangdale denied reports that a short circuit had caused the fire. “I asked my team to investigate the cause in detail to prevent it from recurring in future because it is related to people’s safety,” he said.
“The metropolitan commissioner has ordered an inquiry by an independent committee to determine the cause of fire and for a full check up of all the monorail trains,” the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority said, according to The Indian Express.
This is Mumbai’s only monorail line, which runs from Chembur to Wadala.
