Former Union minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi dies at 72
He has been in a coma since 2008 when he suffered a major stroke.
Senior Congress leader and former Union minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi died at Apollo Hospital in New Delhi on Monday, The Indian Express reported. He was 72, and has been in a coma since 2008.
Dasmunsi was heading the All India Football Federation when he suffered a massive stroke in 2008 that left him paralysed. He was also the Union parliamentary affairs minister.
Blood supply to a part of his brain was cut off, causing irreversible damage. He breathed through a tracheostomy tube attached to his neck and was fed through a tube in his stomach. Though his basic life functions were stable, he was not conscious of his surroundings.
He is survived by his wife Deepa and son Priyadeep Dasmunsi.
