Delhi Police arrest aide of middleman in AIADMK’s Election Commission bribery case
Middleman Sukesh Chandrasekar was arrested for allegedly plotting to bribe the EC to secure the two-leaves election symbol for Sasikala’s faction.
The Delhi Police on Wednesday arrested a close aide of Sukesh Chandrasekar, the middleman accused of plotting to bribe an Election Commission official to secure the “two-leaves” election symbol for the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazagham’s Sasikala camp in April, ANI reported. Pulkit Kundra was arrested by the Delhi Police’s crime branch.
Two camps – one led by ousted party leader TTV Dinakaran and the other by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E Palaniswami and his deputy O Panneerselvam – had claimed the “two-leaves” symbol.
Dinakaran was arrested in April for allegedly bribing Election Commission officials to get the party’s symbol for his faction. He was accused of giving money to Chandrasekar, who was arrested on April 16. Chandrasekar allegedly finalised a Rs 50-crore deal to help the faction secure the “two-leaves” symbol. Officers seized Rs 1.30 crore from him when he was arrested.
The Election Commission finished hearing on the dispute earlier this month, and is likely to announce its decision soon.
