Telangana Congress leaders have criticised the state government for allowing Sunburn Festival to take place in Hyderabad. It is scheduled to be held at the city’s Gachibowli Stadium from Friday.

Former member of parliament V Hanumantha Rao lodged a complaint against the organisers of the Sunburn Festival at Cyberabad police station on Thursday, the Deccan Chronicle reported. He alleged that the event is against Indian culture, and that under the guise of the festival, youths were being given dance, music and cocktails that would “spoil them”.

He also said that the organisers were allowing youths who were below 15 years of age to attend the event, which was priced exorbitantly.

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson Addanki Dayakar said the government was promoting drug culture in the city through such events, according to The Hindu. Dayakar added that the chief minister was ignorant and did not realise this.

He also asked the government why it was giving permission to such an event, especially when it was already in trouble in places like Pune and Goa.
