Two teachers of Kolkata’s GD Birla Centre For Education were arrested on Friday in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a four-year-old girl student inside a school toilet the previous day, ANI reported. They were booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, and will be produced before a court on Saturday.

The two men had allegedly lured the girl into the toilet with chocolates.

“The girl was shown pictures of four suspects,” the lawyer for the girl’s family said, according to IANS. “She has identified two men, one of whom is her physical education teacher.”

Angry parents continued to protest outside the school campus on Saturday morning. They alleged that the school does not have CCTV cameras, despite a similar incident in 2014. Some parents have demanded that the principal resign.

“This is a big school, they take crores of rupees in donation but there is no surveillance,” a parent told NDTV. “Not a single CCTV. How is that possible, especially after the same thing happened three years ago?”

School authorities said they were cooperating with the police. A school official told IANS that the accused teachers were recruited through a Bengaluru-based sports education company. “We might terminate the contract with them if the two are found guilty,” the official said.

The school has said it is considering the parents’ demand of removing all male teaching staff and creating a parents’ forum for regular interactions.

“This is for the second time that such an incident has happened at GD Birla School. In 2014, a girl student was sexually assaulted and the school authorities didn’t take any action,” the four-year-old’s father told News18 on Friday. “Me and my wife are in a state of shock. My daughter is also very traumatised. I will never send her to [the] school again.”
