Jammu and Kashmir: One soldier, two militants killed in encounter in Anantnag
Internet services in south Kashmir remained suspended on Monday because of the gun battle.
One security personnel and two militants were killed in an encounter in Qazigund town of Anantnag in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, ANI reported. One soldier was injured in the attack. The encounter is still underway.
Earlier on Monday, the militants fired at an Army convoy in Qazigund injuring two soldiers. The militants are believed to have entered a house after attacking the convoy which was soon surrounded by security forces, IANS reported.
“When the militants were challenged, they fired at the security forces triggering a gunfight which continued for nearly four hours,” IANS quoted unidentified police official as saying.
Traffic movement on the Jammu-Srinagar highway was suspended because of the encounter. Internet services in south Kashmir also remained suspended throughout Monday.
Security forces had gunned down four militants in central Kashmir’s Budgam district and another militant in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on November 30. The number of militants killed so far this year in Jammu and Kashmir has crossed the 200 mark, the state’s Director General of Police SP Vaid had said that day.
