Uber says it has agreed to settle Indian rape victim’s lawsuit
The ride-hailing company had sacked its Asia-Pacific business head Eric Alexander in June 2017 for possessing and sharing the complainant’s medical records.
Ride-hailing service Uber Technologies Inc said on Friday in a court filing that it had agreed to settle a civil lawsuit filed in the United States by an Indian woman after company executives were reported to have obtained her medical records, Reuters reported. The terms of the settlement have not been disclosed.
An Uber driver had raped the woman in New Delhi in 2014, after which he was prosecuted and sentenced to life imprisonment. The complainant had settled a lawsuit against the company in 2015, but filed another in June in a San Francisco court, after an Uber executive from the United States had met Delhi Police officials and intentionally obtained her confidential medical records.
