The Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested French documentary filmmaker Comiti Paul Edwards in Srinagar for allegedly violating visa rules, The Indian Express reported on Monday. He was produced before a magistrate in Srinagar who sent him to police custody for five days.

Edwards was arrested on Saturday when he was covering a protest organised by human rights activist Mohammad Ahsan Untoo. He reportedly met separatists and victims of pump action gun injuries for a documentary he is shooting, IANS reported. The police said that his business visa did not permit him to film documentaries on political matters or issues related to security.

“He violated visa norms and was found preparing documentary on pellet victims and interviewing separatists,” the Global News Service, a Kashmiri news agency, quoted an unidentified police officer as saying.
