The Election Commission on Friday ordered re-polling at six polling booths where voting took place in the second phase of the Gujarat Assembly elections on Thursday, IANS reported. The re-polling has been scheduled for Sunday.

The Election Commission cited technical reasons for the decision, and votes recorded on Thursday in the electronic voting machines at two booths each in the Vadgam and the Savli constituencies and one each in Daskroi and Viramgam are now void.

Votes from 10 booths will also be counted using the voter-verified paper audit trail, because election officials at those polling stations forgot to remove the votes recorded by the machines during a mock drill, the EC said.

This will be in addition to the usual counting of votes using the paper trail method for one booth per constituency.

Polling was held in 93 constituencies across 14 districts of North and Central Gujarat in the second and final phase. The first phase of voting had concluded on December 9. Results of the Assembly elections will be declared on Monday.
