A rickshaw driver and his friends allegedly raped a 23-year-old woman in Kondhwa area of Pune on Wednesday and Thursday, the Hindustan Times reported. Two accused have been arrested.

On Wednesday evening, the woman had left her house after a fight with her brother. She reached Sun City society in Kondhwa with the intention of meeting her estranged husband. However, after waiting till 11 pm, she boarded a rickshaw, Mid-Day reported.

The rickshaw driver called up his friend, who joined him. Later, they were joined by a third man. The driver took the woman to an isolated place and then the three took turns raping her.

On Thursday, police officials in Yerawada area noticed the woman walking near a psychiatric hospital. When questioned, she said she had been raped. The police registered a case and arrested two accused, Balaji Maruti Shinde and Satish Jai Pal Mane. The third man is still on the run.

“The victim’s father had filed a police complaint with us,” Kondhwa police station Senior Inspector Milind Gaikwad said. “She had even tried to contact him from one of the accused’s phone. However, she could not. Based on her description of the accused and CCTV footages, we have arrested two of them.”
