Kabul: Islamic State claims responsibility for attack on training facility of Afghan spy agency
There were no reports of any casualties, but local media said security forces are still fighting the terrorists.
The Islamic State group on Monday claimed responsibility for an attack on an Afghan intelligence agency training facility in Kabul, AFP reported. There were no reports of any injuries or casualties in the strike.
“Around 10.10 am, a group of armed attackers entered an under-construction building in the NDS training centre in the Afshar area of Kabul,” Interior Ministry Spokesperson Najib Danish told the news agency. He was referring to the National Directorate of Security, Afghanistan’s spy agency.
The gunfight between the terrorists and security forces is still on, according to reports. The military’s special forces have surrounded the gunmen at the building, TOLOnews quoted an unidentified source as saying. The quoted another unidentified source in the security forces as saying that the militants were from the Islamic State.
Kabul has been hit by deadly attacks over the past few months. In November, the Islamic State claimed responsibility for a bombing outside a building where many members of the political party Tajik Jamiat-i-Islam had gathered. At least 14 people, including six civilians, died in that attack.
At least 72 people, including children, were killed in suicide attacks on two mosques in October. Islamic State terrorists killed around 50 people in an attack at Sardar Daud Khan Hospital, which is the country’s largest military hospital, in April.
