Bengaluru: Private financier assaults school principal for allegedly failing to pay interest
Ramakrishnappa shouted at the woman and slapped her, before attacking her with a chain.
A realtor and private financier allegedly attacked the principal of a kindergarten in her office in Bengaluru’s Singanayakanahalli village on Monday for failing to pay the interest on a loan. The man is the father of Janardhan, president of the Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha in Bengaluru’s Yelahanka suburb, The New Indian Express reported.
The video of the incident uploaded on social media shows the man, identified as Ramakrishnappa, shouting at the woman and slapping her and then assaulting her with a chain. The incident was captured on a CCTV camera installed in the principal’s office.
“Yesterday [Monday] afternoon, he came to the school demanding money and started beating me,” the principal, identified as Asha Rao, told PTI. “He then pulled out a rope used to tie animals from his pocket and charged at me, despite my pleading for mercy.”
The woman said she had taken a loan of Rs 70,000 from Ramakrishnappa at an interest of 10%. She said that while she had promptly repaid him in the past, financial troubles had prevented her from doing so for the past four months.
“We [the family] spoke to senior police officers and Karnataka Home Minister [Ramalinga Reddy], after which the police registered a case,” Rao told The New Indian Express. The daily said that the accused is now absconding and the police are searching for him.
But Doddaballapur Deputy Superintendent of Police Y Nagaraj claimed that the issue had not come to his notice. “I spoke to Asha Rao on Tuesday morning, but she did not tell me about this,” he said. “However, I will check with other police officials about it.”
