Five arrested for allegedly raping 20-year-old woman in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri area
Deputy Commissioner of Police Aslam Khan said some of the accused claimed they were minors.
Five youths were arrested for allegedly raping a 20-year-old woman in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri area on Wednesday night, the Hindustan Times reported on Friday. The woman knew all the accused and identified them to the police.
The complainant said she was passing by a dump yard on a dark stretch of the road in Jahangirpuri around 1.30 am when she saw the men. She said they grabbed her and raped her at the side of the road.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest Delhi) Aslam Khan told the Hindustan Times that the woman called the police control room after the five fled. A police team reached the spot and spoke to her. A medical examination confirmed rape.
“Based on her statement, a case of gangrape was registered at Jahangirpuri police station,” Khan said. “We conducted raids and caught the five youths.”
Some of the accused claimed they were minors. “They have no supporting documents, such as a school leaving certificates or Aadhaar cards to back their claim,” Khan said. “The police will seek a bone ossification test to determine their ages.”
