UP Police suspend two officers for negligence during Narendra Modi’s visit to Noida
The prime minister’s convoy took a different route than the one sanitised for his commute.
The Uttar Pradesh Police on Wednesday suspended two officers for negligence during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Noida for the inauguration of the Magenta Line of the Delhi metro on December 25, The Times of India reported.
Gautam Buddh Nagar Senior Superintendent of Police Love Kumar said he had suspended Dadri police station Sub-Inspector Dilip Singh and constable Jaipal. The duo were assigned to escort Modi’s cavalcade from Amity University in Noida to the helipad located in Botanical Garden after the inauguration of the Magenta Line.
However, Modi’s convoy took a different route than the one sanitised for his commute. Singh and Jaipal, who were piloting an anti-demolition vehicle at the front end of the convoy, failed to take a left turn on the Noida-Greater Noida expressway and went straight ahead.
The prime minister’s convoy was caught in traffic because VVIP travel had not been planned for the route, The Times of India reported. Modi reached the helipad 10 minutes late.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Adityanath, who was present during the incident, criticised the Noida Police and demanded an explanation. After this, the two officers were suspended. “We have launched a departmental enquiry into the matter,” Kumar said.
