‘One week has gone waste,’ says Venkaiah Naidu, as Parliament is adjourned for the day again
TDP members continued to demand special category status for Andhra Pradesh.
Both houses of Parliament were adjourned for the day on Friday as Opposition members continued their protests over various matters including the Punjab National Bank’s Rs 12,703-crore scam and demands for a special package for Andhra Pradesh.
The Rajya Sabha was first adjourned till 2.30 pm, and then for the day as the commotion continued. Earlier in the day, the Lok Sabha was adjourned. Proceedings have been washed out in both houses the entire week.
As soon as the fifth day of the Parliament session resumed, several legislators stormed the Well of the Upper House shouting slogans. “One week has gone waste...This is not good,” Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu said before adjourning the proceedings.
Telugu Desam Party MPs demanded special category status to Andhra Pradesh while the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam again demanded that the Cauvery Water Management Board be set up.
The Lok Sabha too witnessed similar uproar, with TDP legislators holding placards demanding special status for Andhra Pradesh. Ashok Gajapathi Raju, who resigned as Union minister on Thursday, joined his party colleagues in the Well of the House. Congress members demanded that businessman Nirav Modi, who is accused of defrauding the Punjab National Bank, be brought back to the country.
