Police summon actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui after lawyer allegedly got hold of his wife’s call records
The actor said the allegations against him were ‘random’.
The Maharashtra police on Friday said they had summoned actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, his wife, and his lawyer Rizwan Siddiqui in Thane, in connection with a call detail records scam, PTI reported.
In January, the police arrested three private detectives, one of whom had reportedly helped Rizwan Siddiqui get hold of call detail records of the actor’s wife. “Three arrested accused, Prasad Palekar, Ajinkya Nagargoje and Jigar Makhwana informed the police that an advocate had obtained the CDRs of Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s wife from private detectives,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Abhishek Trimukhi said. “Hence to verify the same, we have summoned them.”
Trimukhi said the lawyer might have sought the records because of some dispute between the couple. “It will be clear only after the actor’s statement is recorded,” he added.
The police has arrested eleven people, including well-known private detective Rajani Pandit, for allegedly procuring call detail records illegally and selling them. A sessions court will rule on Pandit’s bail petition on Monday, The Times of India reported.
On Saturday, the actor refuted the allegation, calling it random. “Last evening, I was helping my daughter to prepare her school project Hydroelectric Power Generator and went to her school this morning for Project Exhibition,” Nawazuddin Siddiqui said on Twitter. “To my surprise, the media had questions about some random allegations on me #Disgust.”
